About The Artist: Thomas Everhart
Tom Everhart was a successful painter of large-format landscapes when he was asked to render drawings of the Schulz's characters for a commercial project in 1980. With an extensive background in fine art, Everhart prepared for the task by projecting Schulz's comic strips onto a 25-foot wall in his studio for closer examination. He was stunned to discover that, blown up larger than life, Schulz's pen strokes closely connected to his own painting style. His fascination with Schulz's "line" -- and his remarkable ability to capture it with his own distinct interpretation -- impressed Schulz and launched a friendship and collaboration that continued until Schulz's death in 2000.
Schulz and Everhart enjoyed the respective similarities of their art, while Everhart continued to stretch the boundaries that existed for Schulz, whose work was confi ned primarily to small-scale cartoon frames. With large-format, oversized panels, Everhart has succeeded in taking Schulz's familiar characters in a new direction -- continuously exploring his artistic passions by recording the movements of light and color in imaginary, non-literal landscapes and settings.
Everhart strives to discover new ways to, as he says, "seduce and amuse the relationship between the subject matter and the process." And most of all, express his desire "to record the experience of my astonishment and shock at human nature -- life, death, bad hair-dos, amusing fashion, ignorant observations, earnest ridiculousnesss -- and my sense that in today's society, it is the experience of the normal and everyday, rather than the unusual or different, that is most astonishing."
Everhart's paintings have been exhibited in Museums and fine art galleries worldwide, including Louvre Museum, Paris, France, 1990; Museu da Cidade, Lisbon, Portugal, 1993; and Suntory Museum, Osaka, Japan, 2000. In 2003, an important one-man exhibition, "Under The Influence," was held at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, CA. It is fitting that the first non-cartoon exhibition that the Museum mounted is a collection of paintings by artist and friend Tom Everhart. Gallery exhibitions have recently been held at Entertainment Galleries in Las Vegas and S2 Art Gallery in Chicago, and Everhart's art continues to be widely exhibited in the United States and Japan.
S2 Art Group, Ltd. is pleased to print, publish and exhibit fine art lithographs by Tom Everhart and to exhibit his paintings. Everhart's hand-signed lithographs are printed by S2 Art Group at S2's fine art atelier in Las Vegas.
