Collectible Stephen Holland
To understand just how broad the range of styles can be within the sports art genre, one need look no further than to compare the works of LeRoy Neiman and Stephen Holland. One is "Man at His Leisure," while the other is "Man on the Edge." Neiman covers the entire scene in a sweeping panoramic view, while Holland focuses on the man in the middle. Neiman's work vibrates with sound. Holland's is hauntingly silent.
Perhaps this sense of isolation is due in part to Holland's own unique background. Handicapped as a child, Holland was forced to wear a steel leg brace and go to special schools away from his neighborhood. Rather than participating in team sports, Holland occupied his time and his mind by drawing his friends at play.
Holland's work is fierce. Working almost exclusively with athletes as his subject matter, he zeroes in on the object of his focus. His athletes seem to have a bubble of silence around them, as if you could hear them thinking.
Atkinson Fine Art is proud to be the temporary home of an enormous selection of highly collectible Stephen Holland prints, lithographs, serigraphs and giclee prints. We say "temporary" because Mr. Holland's work tends to move fast from our gallery. However, thanks to his prolific skills, there are always new and exciting pieces available for collector procurement. Thank you for your interest in Stephen Holland--and for visiting us today at Atkinson Fine Art.
